Klein Venevil hüpfte mit leichtem Sinn
Zum Geliebten dahin.
Sie sang, dass es klang über's Kirchendach:
"Guten Tag, guten Tag!"
Und alle kleinen Vöglein die sangen's fröhlich nach:
Auf Sankt Hans
Gibt's Jubel und Tanz!
Doch nachher weiss ich wenig, ob sie flicht ihren Kranz!
Sie flicht ihm den Kranz aus Blaublümelein: "Schau
Meiner Augen Blau."
Er nahm ihn, verwarf ihn, nahm neu ihn geschwind:
Leb' wohl, mein Kind!"
Und jauchzt, als er sprengt über's Ackerland geschwind!
Auf Sankt Hans
Gibt's Jubel und Tanz!
Doch nachher weiss ich wenig, ob sie flicht ihren Kranz!
