Thirza I
 (Sung text for setting by J. Zumsteeg)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Allah gibt Licht in Nächten,
Allah gibt Trost in Not!
Und bleich gehärmte Wange
Färbt Allah wieder rot!

Blumen und Blüten welken,
Jahre verschwinden im Flug;
Doch ach! mein Herz wird bleiben,
Das hier voll Schwermut schlug!

Fröhlich zu Allah's Wohnung
Werd' ich hinüber gehn,
Dort wird die Nacht verschwinden,
Dort wird mein Aug' ihn sehn.

Composition:

    Set to music by Johann Rudolf Zumsteeg (1760 - 1802), "Thirza I", published 1800, from Kleine Balladen und Lieder, Heft II, no. 2

Text Authorship:

  • by Siegfried August Mahlmann (1771 - 1826), no title, appears in Kleine Erzählungen, Gedichte und prosaische Aufsätze, in Benno. Eine Erzählung, first published 1801
