Note: This poem is a variant of Matthisson's Die schöne Erde; see below. The modifications could not be traced to an authentic publication of Matthisson, however. While Mildheimisches Lieder-Buch uses the title "Die Erde" and does not mention Matthisson as the author, the prior edition of this variant in Allgemeines Liederbuch des deutschen Nationalgesanges uses the title "Die schöne Erde" and specifies Matthisson as the author.

Hoe mooi in de lente d' aarde bloeit;
Hoe ieder wezen uitgebreid
Zich aan haar gulle borsten vlijt;
Hoe lief zij elke zuig'ling heeft,
Hem graag haar milde voeding geeft,
En uit haar jonge overvloed
Steeds voortbrengt, voedt en groeien doet;
Dan voelt mijn ziel een noob'le drang,
Te roemen Hem met daad en zang
Wiens almachtswoord, immens en diep,
