Du Thurm! zu meinem Leide
Ragst du so hoch empor,
Und mahnest grausam immer
An das, was ich verlor.
Sie hängt an einem Andern,
Und wohnt im Weiler dort.
Mein armes Herz verblutet,
Vom schärfsten Pfeil durchbohrt.
In ihren schönen Augen
War keiner Untreu Spur;
Ich sah der Liebe Himmel,
Der Anmut Spiegel nur.
Wohin ich mich nun wende -
Der Thurm, er folget mir;
O sagt' er, statt der Stunden,
Was mich vernichtet, ihr!
Note: Schubert received Mayrhofer's texts generally in handwriting; the printed edition of Mayrhofer's poems appeared much later and presents the texts usually in a revised version.

Oh torre! Per la meva dolença
t’alces tan amunt,
i cruel, sempre em recordes
aquella que vaig perdre.
Ella està ara amb un altre
i viu al poblet allà baix.
El meu pobre cor es dessagna,
travessat per la fletxa més punxent.
En els seus formosos ulls,
ni hi havia cap rastre d’infidelitat,
jo només hi veia tot un cel d’amor,
només un mirall de l’encís.
Adés, onsevulla que vagi
la torre em segueix;
oh, si en lloc d’anunciar les hores,
li digués a ella el que em va destruir!
