Quem pastores laudavere
Language: Latin
Quem pastores laudavere
Quibus angeli dixere,
Absit vobis iam timere,
Natus est rex gloriae.

Ad quem magi ambulabant
Aurum, thus, myrrhum portabant,
Immolabant haec sincere
Nato regi gloriae.

Exultemus cum Maria
In coelesti heirarchia
Natum promat voce pia
Laus honor et gloria.

Christo regi, Deo nato,
Per Mariam nobis dato,
Merito resonet vere
Laus, honor et gloria.

J. Rutter sets stanzas 1-2, 4

Weihnachtslied
(Sung text for setting by C. Thiel)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Latin
Preis sei Gott im Höchsten Throne
und auch seinem lieben Sohne,
der uns ist ein Mensch geboren,
sonst wärn alle wir verloren.

Ein Kindlein ist uns heut gegeben,
das erhält uns bei dem Leben,
welch's ist klarer als die Sonne,
aller Engel Freud und Wonne.

Der König Himmels und der Erden,
da er uns auch gleich sollt werden,
ward geborn ein armes Kindlein
und nahm auf sich die Sünde mein.

Diesen König hoch dort oben
wollen wir von Herzen loben
und ihn bitten allzugleich,
daß uns zukomm sein Himmelreich.

Set to music by Carl Thiel (1862 - 1939), "Weihnachtslied", published c1915 [ SATB chorus a cappella ], Leipzig: C.F. Peters
