Aus dem Arabischen
(Sung text for setting by R. Stöckhardt)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Geliebte! Wenn einst gebrochen mein Herz
nicht mehr kann für dich schlagen,
und dunkle Zypressen, efeuumrankt
über meinem Grabe ragen,
so will ich still liegen und warten, bis man
auch dich in die Erde wird legen,
doch dann soll mein vermodert Gebein
tief unten noch einmal sich regen,
und sooft von deinem Grabe der Wind
ein wenig Erde mir wird bringen,
soll von meines Herzens Asche herauf
ganz leise ein Klagelied klingen!

Composition:

Set to music by Reinhold Stöckhardt (1831 - 1901), "Aus dem Arabischen", op. 6 (Vier Lieder für 1 Singstimme mit Pianoforte) no. 2, published 1884 [ voice and piano ], Leipzig, Peters
