by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926)

Volksweise
(Sung text for setting by P. Eben)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Mich rührt so sehr
böhmischen Volkes Weise,
schleicht sie ins Herz sich leise,
macht sie es schwer.

Wenn ein Kind sacht
singt beim Kartofeljäten,
klingt dir sein Lied im späten
Traum noch der Nacht.

Magst du auch sein
weit über Land gefahren,
fällt es dir doch nach Jahren
stets wieder ein.

Composition:

Set to music by Petr Eben (1929 - 2007), "Volksweise", 1961, published 1966 [ voice and piano ], from Sechs Lieder nach Gedichten von Rainer Maria Rilke, no. 2, confirmed with a CD booklet

Text Authorship:

  • by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926), "Volksweise", appears in Erste Gedichte, in Larenopfer
