La pluie
(Sung text for setting by E. Chausson)
 Matches base text
Language: French (Français)
La pluie, la pluie aux doigts verts
Joue sur la peau des feuilles mortes
Son joyeux air de tambourin.

La pluie, la pluie aux pieds bleus
Danse sa danse toumoyante
Et fait des ronds dans la poussière.

La pluie, la pluie aux lèvres fraîches
Baise la terre aux lèvres sèches
Et fait craquer le corset du grain.

Notes provided by Laura Prichard about the song by Alexandre Georges: The poetic text in the preface to Georges’ complete score is preceded with this introduction:
“Eh ! quoi !” disait la Vougne. “Tantôt vous vous plaignez de la poussière ! Bon ! la poussière se couche et va mourir sous la pluie. Et maintenant vous vous plaignez de la pluie. Vous n’êtes jamais contents, vous autres,” et gaîment, entonna la chanson. (Roman page 215) [“Eh ! What?” said La Vougne. “Now you're complaining about the dust! Well, the dust lies down and dies in the rain. And now you’re complaining about the rain. You’re never happy, you people.” And she cheerfully intoned this song.]
