Mondnachtliedchen
(Sung text for setting by J. Kalliwoda)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Alles öd' in tiefster Nacht,
nur der liebe Vater wacht.
Wie sein Auge mild und traut
auf die Kinder niederschaut!

Mond, du Vaterauge du,
Müden spende Trost und Ruh'!
Kranken blinke Hoffnungschein
in das wunde Herz hinein!

Helle mild des Wand'rers Pfad,
wenn er Sumpf und Abgrund naht!
Strahle hell, wo Diebe geh'n,
dass die Häscher sie erspäh'n!.

Leuchte sanft mit feuchtem Blick
stiller Liebe stillem Glück,
streuend matten Dämmerschein
ins verhängte Fensterlein.
