In der Sonnengasse zu St. Goar,
Da kämmt die Resi ihr schwarzes Haar,
Sie lacht in den Spiegel verstohlenen Blicks,
Silbern über ihrem Bett hängt ein Cruzifix,
Ihr Pantöffelchen klappert, ihr Schnürleib kracht:
  Heute Nacht! Heute Nacht!

In der Sonnengasse zu St. Goar,
Da wohnt schräg über ihr ein junger Scholar,
Der pfropft sich in den Schädel lauter dummes Zeug,
Schwarz auf seinem Pulte liegt der Pentateuch,
Da streift ihn die Sonne, das Leder kracht:
  Heute Nacht! Heute Nacht!

Note: "St." stands for "Sankt" and is usually written out as an entire word in setting scores. Goar is a village on the Rhine.
