Lied der Zigeunerin
 (Sung text for setting by B. Sekles)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Romanian (Română)
Brenne mich und brate mich,
auf die Kohlen setze mich!
Setzest du mich auf die Kohlen,
sprech' ich, Liebster, nicht zu dir;
willst du an den Spieß mich stecken,
schadet's nichts, das glaube mir!
Willst du mich mit Ruten peitschen
auf die Augen, auf die Brust,
werd' ich einen Andern küssen,
ganz nach meines Herzens Lust!
Hat der Weinstock abgeblüht,
picken Vögel an den Reben.
Lieben will ich, lieben muss ich.
Ohne Liebe ist kein Leben!

    Set to music by Bernhard Sekles (1872 - 1934), "Lied der Zigeunerin", op. 16 (Zwei Lieder für eine weibliche Singstimme und Pianoforte) no. 2 [ female voice and piano ]
