Über den Tannen schwamm der klare Vollmond;
still verglommen der Abendröte Gluten,
und die Zitterespen am stillen Weiher
säuselten leise.

Fröstelnder Wehmut Schauer weht' im Nachthauch;
vor dem schwimmenden Blicke schwebten trübe
die Gestalten meiner entfernten Lieben
und der Gestorb'nen.

Abende, seufzt' ich, die ihr uns vereint saht,
nimmer kehrt ihr wieder! Löschend schwand das
Abendrot; die Espen am stillen Weiher
säuselten: Nimmer.
