Im Walde
 (Sung text for setting by F. Lachner)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Tief durch den Wald Gesang erschallt,
Die leichten Vöglein scherzen,
Der Mensch allein, der trägt die Pein
Recht tief im kranken Herzen.

Leicht hüpft der Bach den Blumen nach,
Ihm ist so kühl und helle,
Durchs Menschenherz, da schleicht mit Schmerz
Des heißen Blutes Welle.

Gesang verhallt, Sturm wiegt den Wald
In dumpfen Melodien;
Einsam die Bahn muß Wandersmann
Mit düstrer Wolke ziehen.

Rinn nieder, Tau, aus Wolken grau,
Dich saugt die Blum' in Liebe!
Trän'! bleib zurück im Menschenblick,
Machst Blumen welk und trübe!
