Im Frühlings Anfang

Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT ENG FRE ITA
Erwacht zum neuen Leben
Steht vor mir die Natur,
Und sanfte Lüfte wehen
Durch die verjüngte Flur.
Empor aus seiner Hülle
Drängt sich der junge Halm,
Der Wälder öde Stille
Belebt der Vögel Psalm.

Die Flur im Blumenkleide
Ist, Schöpfer, dein Altar,
Und Opfer reiner Freude
Weiht dir das junge Jahr;
Es bringt die ersten Düfte
Der blauen Veilchen dir,
Und schwebend durch die Lüfte
Lobsingt die Lerche dir.

 ...

Lobsing' ihm, meine Seele,
Dem Gott, der Freuden schafft!
Lobsing' ihm und erzähle
Die Werke seiner Kraft!
Hier von dem Blütenhügel
Bis zu der Sterne Bahn
Steig' auf der Andacht Flügel
Dein Loblied himmelan!

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,6 of the original text.

Note (courtesy Laura Prichard): This is the second of three songs that Mozart entered in his Verzeichnis on January 4, 1791. Mozart titled the song "Im Frühlings Anfange" (In Spring’s Beginning), but the first edition had the title "Dankesempfindungen gegen den Schöpfer des Frühlings" (Thankful Feelings Toward the Creator of Spring).

Composition:

Set to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791), "Im Frühlings Anfang", alternate title: "Dankesempfindungen gegen den Schöpfer des Frühlings", K. 597, stanzas 1-2,6

Ontwaakt tot heel nieuw leven
(Sung text translation for setting by W. Mozart)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Ontwaakt tot heel nieuw leven,
Staat vóór mij de natuur,
En zachte briesjes zweven
Door d’ akkers, jong en puur.
Omhoog uit zijn omhulling
Dringt zich de jonge halm,
De doodsheid van de wouden
Leeft op door vogelpsalm.

Het veld, bekleed met bloemen,
Is, Schepper, uw altaar;
Daar offert zuiv’re vreugde
Aan U het jonge jaar.
De eerste geuren brengen
Geeft ‘t blauw viooltje schik
En, zwevend door de luchten,
Looft U de leeuwerik.

 ...

Zing lof Hem toe, mijn ziel ja,
De God die vreugde geeft!
Zing lof Hem toe, verkondig
Wat zijn kracht voor ons deed.
Hier van de bloemenheuvel
Tot aan de sterrenbaan
Laat op eerbied’ge vleugels
Jouw lied ten hemel gaan!
