Die Schläferin
 (Sung text for setting by F. Hensel)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Du rotwangige Schläferin
ruhst so lieblich im Klee;
nicht Arkadiens Schäferin
ruhte lieblicher je!
Wie so klar aus den Äugelein
um und über sie schaut.
Rauscht ein Vogel im Zweigelein?
Rann die Quelle zu laut?

Fremd wie Böhmen und Spanien
blickt das Mädchen mich an;
unter Blütenkastanien
stand ich lauschend und sann,
wenn die Wängelein rötete
Schlaf dir oder auch Traum,
und die Nachtigall flötete
Lieb' im blühenden Baum.

Composition:

    Set to music by Fanny Hensel (1805 - 1847), "Die Schläferin", H-U 164 [ voice and piano ]
