enno ingen Gut!
Det er langt so lenge vona!
Mangein Gut saag eg,
som saag blidt paa meg,
men han tok meg ikkje til si Kona.

Ung var eg ein Gang
full af Dans og Sang,
som den friske Blom eg blømde;
Gutar raudnad' daa,
naar dei paa meg saa;
men eg eldest, og dei fraa meg rømde.

Ragnhild ho var klok,
som sin Gunnar tok,
om han enn vardt kalla "Knoken".
Havde ogso eg 
tenkt saa med meg:
"Best at bita paa den fyrste Kroken!"

J'ai vu plus d'un garçon
qui me regardait avec douceur
mais qui ne m'a pas pris pour femme !

Autrefois j'étais jeune,
éprise de danse et de chansons,
épanouie comme une fleur fraîche ;
les garçons rougissaient alors
quand ils me regardaient,
mais j'ai vieilli et ils se sont éloignés de moi.

Ragnhild, elle, fut avisée
de prendre son Gunnar
qui fut appelé "l'Efflanqué".
Pourquoi aussi n'ai-je point
pensé à part moi :
« Il vaut mieux mordre au premier hameçon ! »
