Am schwarzen Kamin,
Da stehet mein Lieber,
Da geh' ich vorüber,
Die Bälge dann sausen,
Die Flammen aufbrausen
Und lodern um ihn.

mentre batte il martello,
che forte risuona,
e da lontano si sente
come un suono di campane,
per vicoli e piazze.
 
Presso il nero camino,
è il posto del mio amore,
gli passo vicino,
mentre sibilano i mantici,
e divampa la fiamma,
ardendo a lui intorno.
