Und wächst mit jedem Tage,
Nimmt zu im Leid an Kraft und Muth
Und weiß von keiner Klage!

  Wie hat's die Liebe doch so gut,
Weiß Alles zu verklären,
Und mag sich, will's auch Gut und Blut,
In steter Treu bewähren!

  Wie hat's die Liebe doch so gut,
Und weiß von keinem Ende,
Bis daß sie kehrt mit aller Gluth
Zurück in Gottes Hände!

Only the more shall it receive!

In sorrow it increases in strength and courage
And knows of no lamenting!

It knows how to transfigure everything,
And it may, even should it demands goods and blood,
Be found steadfast in faithfulness!

  How love has it oh so good,
And knows of no end,
Until, with all its fervour,
It returns to God's hands!
