Nicht weinen
 (Sung text for setting by K. Jürgens)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Nicht weinen -- Thränen thun so weh,
Dir nicht, doch mir, der ich sie seh' --
    Nicht weinen.

Thräne, die stumm vom Auge quillt,
Spricht ach so bitter, klagt so wild,
Lautlos, doch lauter als das Wort,
Heiß wie der Vorwurf glüht sie fort --
    Nicht weinen.

Thränen entlastend eigene Noth,
Tragen in Freundes Herz den Tod;
Mein Herz von Leid so tief umringt,
Stirbt, wenn es deine Thränen trinkt,
    Nicht weinen -- nicht weinen!

    Set to music by Karl Jürgens (1879 - 1954), "Nicht weinen", op. 4 (17 Lieder) no. 1 (1926) [ voice and piano ]
