by Augusto Ferrán (1835 - 1880)
Translation by Friedrich Heinrich Oser (1820 - 1891)

Dein Augenpaar
(Sung text for setting by L. Keller)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Spanish (Español)
Laß keinen Sonnenstrahl herein,
Mein Liebchen, in dein Kämmerlein!
Nur mich laß schaun, nur mich allein
Dein Augenpaar, so mild und rein!

Und wenn wir Nachts am Strande gehn
Und aller Blumen Düfte wehn,
Gewiß der Mond auch hört dein Flehn:
Bedecke dich, laß dich nicht sehn!

Er weiß: Was ist sein hellster Schein
Gen deine frommen Äugelein!
Er weiß: Nur mir, nur mir allein
Gehört ihr Blick, so mild und rein!

Note: in many older editions, the spelling of the word "Äuglein" becomes "Aeuglein", but as can be seen in how "über" becomes "Ueber" when capitalized, this is due to the printing process and not to rules of orthography, so we use "Äuglein".

Composition:

Set to music by Ludwig Keller (1847 - 1930), "Dein Augenpaar", c1920 [ voice and piano ], from Aus Cádiz, no. 7

Text Authorship:

  • by Friedrich Heinrich Oser (1820 - 1891), "Laß keinen Sonnenstrahl herein!", appears in Neue Lieder, in Liedercyklus. (Frei nach dem Spanischen.), no. 4
