   Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:
The fire-fly wakens: waken thou with me.

   Now droops the milk-white peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.

   Now lies the earth all Danaë to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.

   Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake:
So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.

Adés dorm el pètal carmesí, adés el blanc;
no onegen els xiprers al passeig del palau;
ni parpelleja l’aleta daurada de la font de pòrfir:
la lluerna es desperta; desperta’t tu també amb mi.

   El paó blanc com la llet ara es capbaixa com un fantasma,
i com un fantasma, ella brilla amb una llum trèmula cap a mi.

   Ara resta la terra tota Dànae envers les estrelles,
i tot el teu cor resta obert cap a mi.

   Ara replega el lliri tota la seva dolçor,
i s’esmuny dins la sina del llac:
així doncs, replega’t tu també, estimada, i llisca
