Bildnis eines zu alt gewordenen Literaten
(Sung text for setting by B. Hummel)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Noch sieht man ihn als letzte Säule
Auf etwas schwachem Sockel ragen.
Noch ist er fähig, manche Eule
Behutsam nach Athen zu tragen.

Zwar leidet er an Gicht und Spasmen
Und wird allmählich dürr und klein,
Doch fallen ihm die Pleonasmen
Noch immer dutzendweise ein.

So sucht er, immer neu verwundert,
Im Kinderspiel sein Greisenglück,
Und blickt aufs neunzehnte Jahrhundert
Wie auf ein Paradies zurück.
