Dort in des Waldes traulich stillen Gründen
 (Sung text for setting by E. Degele)
 See base text
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the French (Français)
Dort in des Waldes traulich stillen Gründen
singt ohne Unterlass die Nachtigall,
will uns mit lieblichen Lauten verkünden:
Sehnen der Liebe bringt Leid überall!

 ...

Liebe, dein Leiden, kaum ist's zu ertragen,
wen es erfüllet, dem bricht es das Herz;
doch nicht im Grabe verstummen die Klagen,
Gras deckt den Hügel, doch nimmer den Schmerz.

Composition:

    Set to music by Eugen Degele (1834 - 1886), "Dort in des Waldes traulich stillen Gründen", op. 3 (3 Lieder für Bariton oder Alt mit Begleitung des Pianoforte) no. 2, stanzas 1,3 [ baritone or alto and piano ]
