Ist Wien, ist Wien nicht Deutschlands Herz?

Seit Dich in seine Brust voll Wonne
Der ritterliche Kaiser schloß,
Bist Du ihm Glückstern, bist ihm Sonne, --
Das ist fortan Dein lichtes Loos.

Wien grüßt mit Jubel und Gesängen,
Dich, welche selbst ist Harmonie,
Zum Himmel tönt's in Wort und Klängen:
"Gott Dank! wie lieb, wie lieb, ist Sie!"

May the pain of separation never dampen your spirits,
Now you are truly in your homeland!
Is not Vienna, is not Vienna Germany's heart?

Ever since the knightly Emperor has blissfully
Taken you into his bosom,
You are to him the star of good fortune, the sun, --
That is henceforth your bright destiny!

Vienna greets you with jubilation and songs,
You who are yourself harmony,
To heaven it sounds in word and music:
"Thanks be to God, how dear, how dear is she!"
