Aux bords du Bendemir est un berceau de roses
Que jusqu’au dernier jour on me verra chérir ;
Le chant du rossignol, dans ses fleurs demi-closes,
Charme les flots du Bendemir.

J’aimais à m’y bercer d’un songe fantastique ;
M’enivrant de parfums, de repos, d’avenir,
J’écoutais tour à tour l’oiseau mélancolique
Et les ondes du Bendemir.

Maintenant, loin des lieux où fleurit mon aurore,
Je dis : Voit-on encor la rose s’embellir,
Et le chantre des nuits soupire-t-il encore
Sur les rives du Bendemir ?

Non, le printemps n’est plus, la rose s’est flétrie ;
Le triste rossignol de douleur va mourir,
Et je ne verrai plus couler dans ma patrie
Les flots d’azur du Bendemir.
