Die Lilie am See
(Sung text for setting by F. Kamm)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn der Nachtwind im Mondlicht
Die Seeküste streift,
Das Meerweib am Schiffswrack
Die Todten umschweift,
Die Möve lautkreischend
Die Wellen umkreist:
Da schimmert's am Strand hin
Wie ein ruhloser Geist.

Es schleicht aus dem Kloster
Die die Nonne sich sacht,
Die betet den Tag lang
Und pilgert bei Nacht.
Wie bleich ist das Antlitz,
Wie glasig der Blick,
Die Brust drückt wie Grabnacht
Ein trübes Geschick.

Am Felsen zerschellt' einst
Die Meerfluth das Boot
D'rauf sie und ihr Liebster
Vom Tode bedroht.
Die Braut ward gerettet,
Doch zu tieferem Weh, --
Es verschlang den Geliebten
Die tückische See!

 ...

Sie Sie flieht, wenn im Kreuzgang
Das Chorlied erschallt,
Lacht grell, wenn das Glöcklein
Zu Mitternacht hallt.
Dann nimmt sie den Schleier,
Ein meergrün Gewand, Fasst den Rosenkranz hastig
In die krampfige Hand.

 ...

Sie bekreuzt sich und wandert,
Bis der Morgen erwacht,
Dann schrickt ste zusammen
Und flieht wie die Nacht.
Wem fern die Gestalt blinkt
Wie Meergrün und Schnee,
Der betet ein Ave
Für die Lille vom See.
