An die Laute
(Sung text for setting by A. Harder)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE ITA SPA
Leiser, leiser, kleine Laute,
Flüstre, was ich dir vertraute,
Dort zu jenem Fenster hin!
Wie die Wellen sanfter Lüfte
Mondenglanz und Blumendüfte,
Send' es der Gebieterin!

Neidisch sind des Nachbars Söhne,
Und im Fenster jener Schöne
Flimmert noch ein einsam Licht.
Drum noch leiser, kleine Laute:
Dich vernehme die Vertraute,
Nachbarn aber - Nachbarn nicht!

Note: The first version of this poem, published in Glycine, is slightly different (see below).

Set to music by August Harder (1775 - 1813), "An die Laute" [ voice and guitar ]
