Meines Lebens süßer, schöner Mai?
Eh ich noch mir einen Kranz gewunden,
Ist die Zeit der Blumen schon vorbei?

War es das, was ich von Freuden träumte,
Als aus ihrem schimmernden Pokal
Lebensfülle mir entgegenschäumte,
Hochgefärbt vom Jugendsonnenstral?

Laß doch, Herz, dein ungestümes Pochen!
Lächle ruhig, stürmendes Gesicht!
Blumen wie wir sie im Traum gebrochen,
Solche Blumen blühn auf Erden nicht.
