Durch den Wald
(Sung text for setting by L. Reichardt)

Durch den Wald mit raschen Schritten
Trage ich die Laute hin,
Freude singt, was Leid gelitten,
Schweres Herz hat leichten Sinn.

Durch die Büsche muß ich dringen
Nieder zu dem Felsenborn,
Und es schlingen sich mit Klingen
In die Saiten Ros' und Dorn.

In der Wildnis wild Gewässer
Breche ich mir kühne Bahn,
Klimm' ich aufwärts in die Schlösser,
Schaun sie mich befreundet an.

Weil ich alles Leben ehre,
Scheuen mich die Geister nicht,
Und ich spring durch ihre Chöre
Wie ein irrend Zauberlicht.
