So rückt denn in die Runde!
Es schleicht die Zeit im Dunkeln,
Sie soll uns rüstig finden
Und heiter, stark und gut!
Gar viel ist zu vollbringen,
Gar Vieles muß mißlingen.
So mag die letzte Stunde
Nachleuchten uns und funkeln!
Wo unsre Pfad' sich winden,
Wir sind in Gottes Hut.

Dem Bruder meines Lebens,
Der, fern, mit mir zusammen,
Ihm sei aus Herzensgrunde
Das voll Glas gebracht!
Ich brauch' ihn nicht zu nennen,
Er aber wird mich kennen.
Viel Land trennt uns vergebens,
Ihm soll dies Wort, die Stunde,
Durch alle Adern flammen,
Wie ich an Ihn gedacht!

Preneu lloc a la penya!
El temps s’esmuny vers la foscúria
i ens ha de trobar en plena forma,
alegres, forts i saludables!
Hi ha moltes coses a fer,
moltes han d’anar malament.
Per això, que la darrera hora
resplendeixi per a nosaltres!
Allà on els nostres camins es torcin
estarem sota la guarda de Déu.

Al company de la meva vida
que, lluny, és encara al meu costat,
des del fons del meu cor,
li sigui oferta la primera copa!
No em cal anomenar-lo
però ell em reconeixerà.
Debades ens separa molt espai de terra,
a ell aquestes paraules, aquesta hora,
li han de fer enardir totes les venes,
com he pensat en ell!

Que jo mai vegi l’oprobi
que també el teu cor, ha estat enganyat
per la rapinya d’altres pobles,
planyent-se de ser covard i frívol,
la llum i l’ornament el puguin atemorir!
