Will ich nach den Wolken sehen
Und die müden Augen schließen
Und ins Träumeland hinüber
Hin zu meiner Mutter gehen.

Oh, sie hat mich schon vernommen!
Leise geht sie mir entgegen,
Der ich ferneher gekommen,
Meine Stirne, meine Hände,
Still in ihren Schoß zu legen.

Wird sie jetzt nach Dingen fragen,
Die ich nur mit Scham gestehe
Und mit bitterlichen Klagen?
Nein, sie lacht! Sie lacht und freut sich
Meiner lang vermißten Nähe.
