Før øiet lukkes til sidste blund, 
o, lad det dit øie møde, 
og hold mit hoved i dødens stund 
blidt i dine hænder bløde, 
og tryk et kyss på min blege mund 
for alt hvad jeg måte lide; 
du kyssed mig aldrig, i kys mig kun, 
nu ingen kan det få at vide.

Da vil jeg tro at jeg bæres frem, 
hvor stjernerne klarhed tænder; 
da vil jeg tro at mod himlens hjem 
jeg bæres av englehænder, 
da vil jeg tro at de kysse mig, 
thi al min kval og kvide, 
som nattens tåge fra solens vei 
da bort fra mit bryst må glide.
