Language: Danish (Dansk)
Vender sig lykken fra dig,
bli'r du i støvet trådt,
og bli'r af fjender spottet,
af venner selv forrådt,

du skal det lidet agte,
når du dig selv ej sveg,
vi sendtes hid til arbejd',
og ej til lyst og leg.

Men hist, hvor ånder svømme
på Mælkevejens hav,
hvor livets hvide svaner
opstå af tid og grav,

dér skal det åbenbares,
hvad du har tænkt så tit,
at den skal højest glædes,
som allermest har lidt.

Thi smerten er kun vrangen
af salighedens dragt,
i dybets dunkle kilder
sig spejler lysets pragt.
