Gulhinde
 (Sung text for setting by K. Reissiger)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Nennet nur den Jüngling meiner Liebe!
Ach, es tönt so süß an Herz und Ohr,
Klingt der Name der geheimsten Triebe
Auch aus andern Lippen uns hervor.

Fragt mich immer, wer den Schmuck gegeben,
Der Gulhindens Arm und Brust umschlang;
Assad! ruf' ich unter freud'gem Beben;
Ihm allein gebührt der Freude Dank.

 ...

Darum schmückt das Mädchen sich so gerne,
Weil der Freund die Zierde dargebracht;
Glänzten wohl so schön des Himmels Sterne,
Wenn nicht Allahs Hauch sie angefacht? --
