Nun fängt es an zu dunkeln
(Sung text for setting by F. Kücken)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Nun fängt es an zu dunkeln
im Wald und auf dem Feld,
doch tausend Sternlein funkeln
am hohen Himmelszelt.

So blitzet kein Geschmeide,
so leuchtet kein Demant,
wie an des Schöpfers Kleide
der sternbestickte Rand.

Wie sollte mir wohl grauen
in stiller, dunkler Nacht,
da über allen Auen
ein lieber Vater wacht.

Composition:

Set to music by Friedrich Wilhelm Kücken (1810 - 1882), "Nun fängt es an zu dunkeln", op. 91 no. 1, published 1870 [ voice and piano ], from Kinderlieder für Jung und Alt, no. 1, Leipzig, Kistner
