Es sitzt ein Staar auf dem Dache fein, ein Kleid von Seide hüllt rings ihn ein, er sträubt so wohlig sein Prachtgewand und ruft, den Schnabel weit aufgespannt: "Wohl ist es eine Freude zu leben!" Die Sonne scheint auf den Blumenplan, er hat sein Flügelpaar aufgetan, er setzt sich keck auf dem Birkenast und singt sein Lied von der hohen Rast: "Wohl ist es eine Freude zu leben!" Himmel wie silbern, Erde wie Gold! Heimat, singend und klingend wie hold! Stolz ist der Staar, es schwillt ihm der Mut, ihm brennt in Liebe sein junges Blut: "Wohl ist es eine Freude zu leben!" "Ach, liebste Kari, nun hei und hopp! Auch mir brennt Liebe das Herz, Gottlob! Und willst du wie ich, o dann kein Gezier! Dann wohnen in einem Stübchen wir, dann ist es eine Freude zu leben!"
