from Volkslieder (Folksongs)
Translation by Thor Næve Lange (1851 - 1915)

Silde den aften
(Sung text for setting by P. Lange-Müller)
 See original
Language: Danish (Dansk)  after the Swedish (Svenska)
Silde den Aften, Dug driver paa,
Udleder Svenden sin Ganger graa.
         ...

Sadel af Sølv og Bidsel af Guld;
Selv rider Svenden saa frydefuld.
I bie mig vel.

Maanen er lys, og Natten er klar,
Saa mangefold Glæde hans Hjerte bar.

Han bandt sin Hest udi Rosenslund,
Han minded sin skjønne Jomfru paa Mund:
I bie mig vel.

»Vi sees vel atter en Sommertid,
Der Dagen er lang og Natten er blid.

Vi sees vel atter saa god en Vaar,
At aldrig mere jeg fra Dig gaaer.
        I bie mig vel!«
