by Karl Stieler (1842 - 1885)

Im Chore
Language: German (Deutsch)
Im nächt'gen Chor zu Tegrinsee,
Da sitzen die Mönche, die frommen,
Herr Wernher war zu rechter Zeit
Zur Mette noch gekommen.

Herr Wernher saß in seinem Stuhl
Und sang die Weise, die alte,
Doch durch sein Beten klang es hin
Wie Vogelsang im Walde.

Und durch sein Beten zieht es hin
Wie lauter Blumen und Sonne...
Du bist min, ich bin din,
Er schloß die Augen vor Wonne.

Dann ward es stille in seiner Brust.
Mög' mich der Himmel strafen! --
Herr Wernher, Euer Herz war wach,
Und Euer Herz muß schlafen!
