by Louise de Vilmorin (1902 - 1969)

Le châle
Language: French (Français)
Assise sur la plaine
Elle tissait le soir
Le châle de mes peines
Du fil de mes espoirs.

Mes mains chaudes et mains moites
Blancs oiseaux passagers
J’aimais ses mains étroites
Sur mon cœur en danger.

J’aimais que son visage
Mît mes jours en péril
Et risquer mon courage
Aux traits de son profil.

La faute originelle
Plantée en son bel œil
Fleurissait sa prunelle :
Couronne de mon deuil.

Et j’aimais sa démarche
Son air d’ange entêté
Quand nous passions sous l’arche
Des ponts d’hiver hantés.

À l’abri des colonnes
Prunelles des amours
Fleurissez de couronnes
Les baisers sans retour.

Elle rendit son ombre
Au grand vent d’un matin
Feuille à peine plus sombre
Que la feuille au jardin.

Mains moites, mains glacées
Oh ! mains de pain béni,
Reposez enlacées
Le long châle est fini.

Salons de l’autre monde
Dans les eaux des miroirs
Aux côtés de ma blonde
Je vais venir m’asseoir.
