Die Sonne, die das Licht dem Leben beut,
  Hat Huld und Muße 
Genug, daß sie die Gräber auch erfreut 
  Mit einem Gruße. 

Der Ort liegt von ves Lebens Lärm und Hast
  Still abgeschieden:
Im Abendwind bebt der Cypressenast --
  Welch tieser Frieden! --

Mir ist, er spricht: ,,Zum Lohn ward ich erbaut,
  Nicht um zu strafen:
Komm' nur, wird dir's da draußen allzulaut;
  Hier ist gut schlafen.''
