Romança sense paraules
Language: Catalan (Català)
Available translation(s): ENG
En la pica de la font
neda una rosa vermella;
acotada al raig del broc
hi beu una joveneta,
per la barba i coll avall
li regala l’aigua fresca;
els germanets més petits,
riu que riu de la mullena;
ella riu i beu ensems
i al cap d’avall s’ennuega.
Tots es posen a xisclar,
s’esvaloten i s’alegren,
i el més petitet de tots,
en bressol dins la caseta,
al sentir aquell brogit,
tot nuet riu i perneja
i es posa a cantar tot sol
una romança sens lletra.

Ballad without words
Language: English  after the Catalan (Català)
In the basin of the fountain
a red rose floats;
leaning over the jet of the spout,
a young girl is drinking,
fresh water trickles
down chin and neck;
the younger brothers
laugh about her getting wet;
she drinks and laughs at the same time
and ultimately chokes.
All begin to shout,
become excited and merry,
and the youngest of all them,
in a cradle, inside the little house,
hearing that turmoil,
wholly naked, laughs and kicks his legs,
and begins to sing all alone,
a ballad without words.
