Die Verlassene
Language: German (Deutsch)
Hört Ihr dort drüben die Klänge,
So sanft, so klagend, so trüb?
Hört Ihr sie, die Gesänge
Von früh verlorener Lieb'?

Es singt unter Rebengeländen
Ein Mädchen das traurige Lied;
Wie schnell die Herzen sich wenden,
Wie bald die Liebe verblüht.

Der Knab ist weit von dem Rheine,
Er hat ihr gebrochen die Treu --
Und ich -- ich lausche beim Scheine
Des Mondes der Melodei.

Confirmed with Illustrirtes Familien-Journal, XI. Band, ed. by A. H. Payne,Leipzig und Dresden: J. F. Klöder, 1854, page 53. Appears in issue no. 270.
