by Joseph Karl Benedikt, Freiherr von Eichendorff (1788 - 1857)

Auf der Feldwacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Mein Gewehr im Arme steh ich
Hier verloren auf der Wacht,
Still nach jener Gegend seh ich,
Hab so oft dahin gedacht!

Fernher Abendglocken klingen
Durch die schöne Einsamkeit;
So, wenn wir zusammen gingen,
Hört ich's oft in alter Zeit.

Wolken da wie Türme prangen,
Als säh ich im Duft mein Wien,
Und die Donau hell ergangen
Zwischen Burgen durch das Grün.

Doch wie fern sind Strom und Türme!
Wer da wohnt, denkt mein noch kaum,
Herbstlich rauschen schon die Stürme,
Und ich stehe wie im Traum.
