Von der geheimnisvoll verschloss'nen Pforte
kenn ich ein Märchen aus dem Morgenland,
Die, unsichtbar an starrer Felsenwand, 
sich öffnen soll dem einen Zauberworte. 

Nur wer zur rechten Zeit, 
am rechten Orte ausspricht das Wort,
dringt in das lnn're ein; 
da schwankt das unbewegliche Gestein, 
ein Weg wird frei zu tief verborgnem Horte. 

Du fremde, unnahbar verschloss'ne Seele,
das Wort, das mich in deine Tiefe führt,
wie sprech ich's aus, 
Daß ich es nicht verfehle? 

Ich rufe, hörst du mich?
Und lausche bebend. 
ob sich nicht leis' der stumme Felsen rührt,
mit Klingen mir das erste Zeichen gebend.
