Rest
Language: English
Available translation(s): GER
Anchor your flight, o winging birds,
To summer's many-nested trees;
And stars, throw down your silver cords
That bind you deeply to the seas.
There may be then one low-built shore
Where our unquiet minds find rest,
Such as the star knows in the deep
And the sleeping bird in the nest.

Ruh'
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the English
Dein Ankerplatz, beschwingte Schar,
sich in Sommers Nestern findet;
wirf, Stern, die Silberschnur herab,
die zutiefst ans Meer dich bindet.
Dort mag e i n flaches Ufer sein,
wo unser rastlos’ Sein find’t Ruh’,
wie sie in Tiefen kommt dem Stern,
im Nest, schlafendem Vogel zu.
