Translation by Siegfried Kapper (1821 - 1879)

Linde durch die Linde
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Russian (Русский)
Our translations:  ENG
 Linde durch die Linde,
Weh'n die Abendlüfte,
Weh'n mir in die Kammer,
Liederklang und Düfte.

  Düfte von der Linde,
Lieder vom Geliebten
[Die seit manchem Abend
Mich gar sehr betrübten!]1

  Vor [dem Thore]2 draußen,
Warum stehst Du wieder?
Muß ja weinen, weinen,
Hör' ich Deine Lieder!

  Weinen, weil die Mutter,
Mir das Fenster wehret,
Und so schöne [Mondnacht]3
Nicht mehr wiederkehret.

  [Singe]4 nicht von Liebe,
Singe nicht von Freude;
Stimme trüb die Saiten,
Sing' von meinem Leide!

  Singe, Freund, die Mutter
Schmeichelnd mir in Schlummer;
[Oder sieh mich sterben,]5
Ach, vor Liebeskummer!
