by Otto Roquette (1824 - 1896)

Wettstreit
Language: German (Deutsch)
 Die Nachtigall sang Melodie,
Der Kuckuck kritisierte sie;
Du bist in unsrer Kompagnie
Auch nur ein Federvieh!

Ein ganzes Heer war wider sie.
Sie sang in alter Melodie,
Und auch in alten Phrasen schrie
Das Heer der Kritici.

Laß Dich nicht irren, ärg're sie!
Denn sie versöhnen wirst Du nie,
Die Kritici, Kriticuli
Und Kriticuculi!

Confirmed with Deutsche Dichtung, fünfter Band, ed. by Karl Emil Franzos, Dresden: L. Ehlermann, 1889, page 171.
