by Moses Mendelssohn (1729 - 1786)

Gesang und Gegengesang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Gereizt von Lenz und Jugendlust,
Warf ich mich an Thamirens Brust,
Und sang, was ich nicht sprechen können:
"Thamire, lindre meine Pein!
Du lehrtest mich von Liebe brennen,
O! Lehre mich auch glücklich sein!"

Das Blut der reinen Unschuld drang
Ihr in die Wangen; und sie sang:
"Das Feuer jugendliche Triebe
Wird durch die Weigrung angefacht;
Der warme Freund verliert die Liebe,
Wenn ihn die Freundin glücklich macht."

Confirmed with Moses Mendelssohn's gesammelte Schriften in sieben Bänden, sechster Band, Leipzig: F. A. Brockhaus, 1845. Appears in Gedichte, page 404.
