Sieh, o Gott der Liebe!

Siegwart
Sieh, o Gott der Liebe!
   Wie ein armes Herz, das du erschufest,
      Aus der Tiefe seiner Leiden
         Sich zu dir hinaufschwingt!

Heut, an deinem Altar,
   Sah ich sie, in Andacht hingegossen,
      Die du auch, wie mich erschufest;
         Ach, um die mein Herz bebt!

Kühn erhubs zu dir sich.
   Auf den Flügeln ihrer reinen Andacht
      Schwebt' es, wagte, minder zitternd,
         Diesen Wunsch: -- Erhör ihn, [Schöpfer]1! --

Leg in deine Wagschaal
   Meine Tage, die noch kommen sollen!
      Laß, wenn sie mich liebt, sie sinken!
         Steigen, wenn sie nicht liebt!
