Heiliger, keuscher Mond!
   Sieh herab auf meine Leiden!
      Habe Mitleid, und erbarm dich meiner!
 
Weinend und todtenbleich
   Seh ich dich, du Kind des Himmels,
      Ringe meine Händ', und schmacht in Jammer.
 
Heiliger, keuscher Mond!
   Ach, ich lieb', ich lieb' ein Mädchen,
      Und sie weis [sic] es nicht, daß ich sie liebe!
 
Heilig und keusch wie du,
   Brennt ihr meine ganze Seele;
      Alle Heilige und Engel wissens!
 
Aber Sie weiß es nicht! --
   Gott im Himmel, laß mich sterben,
      Wenn du nicht für mich den Engel schufest!
